Day 5 - The Chameleon (Part 4) Imitate Christ

Day 5: Known by Our Love
Reading: John 13:34-35 — Jesus commands his followers to love one another as he has loved them, and declares that this love will be the identifying mark by which the world recognizes his disciples.

Devotional: Jesus did not say the world would recognize his followers by their theological precision, their political affiliations, their worship style, or their social media presence. He said they would know us by our love. This is both the simplest and the most demanding standard imaginable. Unconditional love is not a feeling. It is a daily decision to lay down your need to win, your right to be offended, and your comfort, for the sake of someone else. When you do this, you do not simply demonstrate good character. You demonstrate a kingdom. You make visible something the world cannot manufacture on its own. You become a watermark of Christ pressed into the fabric of ordinary life.

Reflection: If someone examined your conversations, your reactions to difficult people, and your private attitudes this past week, would the watermark of Christ's love be clearly visible? Where would it be faint?

Practical Application: Close this reading plan with a time of honest prayer. Ask God to show you one area where conditional love has taken root. Repent where needed. Then ask for the specific grace to love one person this week in a way that can only be explained by the presence of Christ in your life.
