Day 4: God Never Said That - Part 1
Day 4: Learning to Rely Only on God
Reading: Psalm 62:5-8
5 For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence,
for my hope is from him.
6 He only is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall not be shaken.
7 On God rests my salvation and my glory;
my mighty rock, my refuge is God.
8 Trust in him at all times, O people;
pour out your heart before him;
God is a refuge for us. Selah
Devotional: David declares, "My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge." Notice the exclusivity, not God plus your abilities, not God supplementing your strength, but God alone. The pressure to "handle everything" trains us to worship the idol of independence. But God often allows circumstances beyond our control to break our self-reliance. When you stop relying on yourself, you start discovering the inexhaustible resources of God. You're not a standalone bridge engineered with weight limits; you're a train car designed to be connected to an infinite power source. Your job isn't to generate strength, it's to stay connected.
Reflection: What illusion of self-sufficiency is God asking you to release?
