Day 3: Forgiveness: A Grace-Fueled Choice
Day 3: Forgiveness: A Grace-Fueled Choice
Reading:
Ephesians 4:31-32
Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.
Colossians 3:12-13
Since God chose you to be the holy people he loved, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other's faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.
Devotional:
"Forgive as the Lord forgave you." This command doesn't depend on your feelings but on God's grace working through you. God forgave you while you were still broken, distant, and undeserving. He didn't wait until you made everything right. Forgiveness flows not from emotional closure but from remembering the cross. When someone wrongs you, they create a debt. You keep a mental ledger of what they owe. But forgiveness is looking at that ledger while remembering the multi-million dollar debt Christ canceled for you, and choosing to write "paid in full" on theirs. This doesn't excuse their sin; it entrusts justice to God. Today, if you're struggling to forgive, don't manufacture feelings you don't have. Instead, ask God to empower you with His grace, one prayer at a time.
